The Hilton Head-Bluffton Junior Leadership program is a signature, unique leadership program for high school students through the Hilton Head-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce since 2000. It is guided by a volunteer Board of Trustees and student advisors from the previous year's class. The mission of the program is to develop young leaders for their schools and community. Local students who are current sophomores/rising juniors and enrolled in a High School program are eligible to apply.
Program Goals
To encourage students to recognize their own potential and develop their leadership skills. To develop a committed cadre of young leaders who will be challenged to apply their new leadership skills through interactions with community leaders, decision makers, and peers from other schools. To create an environment that nurtures potential young leaders to participate in school/community service and volunteerism.
Mission Statement
The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Junior Leadership program works to effect positive change in a community by providing high school juniors opportunities to build leadership skills through service learning projects, seminars, workshops and interaction with local leaders and decision makers.
Program Qualifications
To qualify for the program, a student must be currently enrolled as a sophomore and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or equivalent. (In other words, the student must be classified as a HS Junior by September, 2016.) Additionally the applicant's parents and school administrator must sign off on the application. Three personal references must be submitted by the application deadline of Monday, April 4, 2016. Following the application process, qualified sophomores will be interviewed and selections made by the end of May, 2016. The classes will begin August 2016 and run through the academic school year. The program allows for 2 class-day absences and a $100 program fee upon acceptance which is to be paid by Orientation in August. Scholarships for the $100 program fee are available.
