Dear Parents,
As with any major storm, Hilton Head Prep will follow the directions provided by the emergency management officials. The following announcement was just made:
Governor Haley has declared a state of emergency concerning Hurricane Matthew and has closed schools in the eastern part of the state, including the Beaufort County School District. District schools will be closed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The governor has also ordered a mandatory evacuation of Beaufort County and other South Carolina coastal counties beginning at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
As Hurricane Matthew approaches, parents and students should monitor news media and follow the directions of Beaufort County Emergency Management.
Hilton Head Prep class and sports for the next week:
Wednesday, October 5th – All classes, activities and sports are cancelled
Thursday, October 6th – All classes, activities and sports are cancelled
Friday, October 7th – All classes, activities and sports are cancelled
Monday, October 10th - Will remain a holiday.
Tuesday, October 11th – Although Tuesday was scheduled as a student holiday and a teacher in-service day, WE WILL HAVE CLASS FOR ALL DIVISIONS (Provided our campus is operational). We will communicate through e-mail, our website and our emergency text service. I apologize for the last minute change but we must make up for the lost days. Please communicate with your division head if you have already made plans to be out of town. Tuesday will be considered an excused absence for those students who had arrangements prior to this weekend.
We will be reviewing our school calendar for the remainder of the year to see where we can make up any additional days if needed.
Athletics: We will have a number of rescheduled games to be announced when we return to school.
This situation serves as a good reminder for all Prep parents to register for the HHP text-based emergency notification system. Parents are required to "opt-in" via text message in order to be included. Please text "Prep" to 843-352-8390 to join and receive any emergency notifications.
Please stay safe!
Jon Hopman
