Six Seniors Sign Letters of Intent
Hilton Head Prep Senior to Play Tennis at South Carolina
Goffi Inks Top-Rated Signees for 2013-14Men's tennis adds blue chip and 5-star recruits for next season.Nov. 26, 2012 GAMECOCK MEN'S TENNIS
November 26, 2012 COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina men's tennis head coach Josh Goffi announced today that Andrew Schafer (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and Sam Swank (Bedford, N.Y.) have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University and play tennis for the Gamecocks, beginning in the 2013-14 season. Schafer is a blue chip recruit and Swank is five-star rated, per TennisRecruiting.net. "The guys that we signed this year are great guys, unbelievable guys, and they come from great families," Goffi said. "They're adding to the overall strength of our team." Schafer is the top rated player in South Carolina and 13th in the nation behind a 48-18 record on the junior circuit. He is 14-6 against other five-star rated players, including a 9-9 mark against fellow blue chippers. Schafer reached the semifinals of the South Carolina ITF event earlier this month and took sixth at the USTA National Spring Championship in Mobile, Ala., in March. Schafer played in the top spot for his high school team, Hilton Head Prep, the last two seasons and has not lost a singles match in that stretch. He led the team to the semifinals of the state tournament last season en route to Player of the Year honors from the Island Packet/Beaufort Gazette. "Andrew Schafer is a very good tennis player," Goffi said. "He reminds me a lot of Andrew Adams, who we have on our team [now], similarly ranked and similar style of games. They both have that phenomenal base that we can spring from. We're extremely excited to have Andrew Schafer on our team." Swank is the rated fifth in New York in recruiting and eighth in the Middle Atlantic region. Rated 63rd nationally, Swank is still building his resume on the junior circuit with an 11-16 overall record. He reached the round of 32 at the USTA National Spring Championship, falling to his future teammate Schafer. Swank also advanced to the semifinals of the USTA Regional Tournament in Coral Gables, Fla., in January 2012. Swank trains with Patrick McEnroe in the USTA Player Development program at the National Tennis Center. "Sam is a phenomenal athlete all around," Goffi said. "He's got a huge frame. He's lanky. He looks like a tennis player, and he's got a very explosive, big game. Sam is a little more inconsistent than Andrew Schafer, but his bas is there for playing a `big boys' game. We're going to develop him and get his consistency day-to-day up a little more and really have him harness that `big boy' game that has a very high end. |

Hilton Head Prep Receives SAIS/SACS Re-accreditation for Another Five Years
HILTON HEAD PREPARATORY SCHOOL RECEIVES DUAL RE-ACCREDITATION
BY THE SOUTHERN ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS AND
THE SOUTHERN ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGES AND SCHOOLS
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC, Dec. 20, 2012 – After a lengthy and rigorous process, Hilton Head Preparatory School has been re-accredited by the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) for the next five years. Hilton Head Prep is the only JK-12 grade school in the Hilton Head/Bluffton area with dual SAIS/SACS accreditation. To earn accreditation, Hilton Head Prep complied with quality standards, implemented a school plan focused on strategic improvement and student performance, and was evaluated by an outside group of peer professionals.
A team of diverse educational leaders from some of the finest institutions in the southeast recently concluded the final step in the accreditation process with an on-site visit to review Hilton Head Prep’s standards compliance and its adherence to its.
“I am delighted that the visiting team recognized the substantive improvements Prep has made in delivering a top-notch education to our students,” said Headmaster Peter Cooper, Hilton Head Preparatory School.
The SAIS/SACS team also sought the answers to critical questions the school asked of itself during the self-study process in 2012. Hilton Head Prep engaged in a lengthy self-study process at the conclusion of the 2007-2011 Strategic Plan, in preparation for drafting the new five-year plan. Many of the elements and improvement plans contained in the self-study are being incorporated into the new strategic plan.
In their final report, the accreditation team affirmed our academic direction and felt Hilton Head Prep is on a bold course for academic improvement and advancement. The team also commended Hilton Head Prep for the strength and passion of its faculty, the close relationships between faculty and students, a strong sense of community by all stakeholders, happy, engaged and self-confident students, a vibrant fine arts program and a healthy balance between academics, athletics and the arts.
As an SAIS/SACS-accredited school, Hilton Head Prep is part of an international network of accredited schools that have demonstrated success in educating children. As such, SAIS/SACS accreditation is recognized throughout the world as a symbol of quality in education for students and teachers.
Hilton Head Prep opened its doors in 1965 as Sea Pines Academy and 1971 as May River Academy. During the 1985-1986 school year, the two school merged to create Hilton Head Prep. Our mission is to educate college-bound students in a safe environment, seeking to instill personal integrity and prepare a diverse population of qualified students for academic challenges, a successful college experience and rewarding lives.
