Hilton Head Prep Announces its 2014-15 Upper School Performance Schedule
HILTON HEAD PREP ANNOUNCES ITS 2014-15 UPPER SCHOOL PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC. Hilton Head Preparatory School is pleased to announce its fall and spring performing arts production titles for the 2014-15 school year.
In the fall slot, from November 6-9, the performing arts department, led by Peggy Trecker White, will present “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” a quintessential tap show that was a long-running Broadway hit and Tony-award winner. Set in the roaring 20s, the story follows a girl named Millie from Kansas who moves to New York City to marry a wealthy man. Instead, she experiences the "thoroughly modern" flapper life, makes some fascinating friends and finds unexpected romance along the way.
In the late winter, from February 19 – 22, the school will produce and present “Bring it On,” based on the hit movie, which tells the story of the challenges and unexpected bonds formed through the thrill of an extreme cheerleading competition. With a colorful crew of characters, an exciting fresh sound and explosive dance, this hilariously universal story is sure to be a crowd-pleaser for all ages.
Both performances will be held at the Seahawk Cultural Center (formerly the VPAC) on the campus of Hilton Head Island High School.
“We are delighted to announce our new season, and have high hopes that both musicals will appeal to a broad range of ages and interests,” said Trecker White.
Hilton Head Prep student auditions for “Thoroughly Modern Millie” will be held in August.
School Uniform/Dress Code Policies & Order Form
Dear Parents,
As the opening of school draws closer, I would like to take a moment to address uniform and dress code expectations. As you may know, the issue of dress code and enforcing our expectations is a reoccurring theme. Our middle school and upper school has been reluctant to adopt uniforms in favor of a dress code with minimum expectations. As a college preparatory school we do expect our students to dress in a more conservative manner that will reflect positively upon the students and our school as a whole. I have attached our dress code expectations for your review so that Hilton Head Prep can benefit from your support as we enforce these expectations. You will notice that we have specified the length of shorts and/or skirts, which cannot be any shorter than mid-thigh. As incentive, if students repeatedly fail to meet these expectations, they will lose the privilege of wearing shorts or skirts. Our administration and teachers are committed to enforcing our uniform policy and we hope by working together we can eliminate these distractions and focus our attention on other priorities.
Yours in education,
Jon A. Hopman

Hilton Head Prep Receives Largest Gift in School History
On December 30, 2014, Hilton Head Preparatory School closed on the largest single donation in the school's history. Thanks to the generosity of two philanthropic businessmen, James W. Bradshaw of Hilton Head Island and Carlos E. Evans of Charlotte, NC, the school is now the proud owner of the Main Street Theatre, a gift worth $1,950,000. "A donation of this magnitude will make a huge impact on our small private school by boosting our arts programming and developing more opportunities for the creative process", says JR Richardson, Trustee Emeritus of Hilton Head Preparatory School and a longtime friend of Mr. Bradshaw and Mr. Evans.
"I am thrilled that Prep now has its own arts theatre in which we can showcase all of our performing arts in each division", says Hilton Head Prep Headmaster, Jon Hopman, "and we are committed to promoting arts in the community with the use of this building". Hilton Head Prep expects to use the venue for its Upper, Middle and Lower School productions as well as several music concerts and events throughout the year.
"Both donors are longtime friends and supporters of the Hilton Head Island community", says JR Richardson, "and Hilton Head Prep is deeply appreciative of their large unselfish donation". Jim Bradshaw, successful Island entrepreneur, has lived on Hilton Head Island for 42 years and both of his daughters attended Hilton Head Prep. Carlos Evans worked on the island in the early 80's and while he currently lives in Charlotte, he has continued business and personal involvement on Hilton Head Island.
"We are extremely thankful to Mr. Bradshaw and Mr. Evans for this very generous gift to our school", says Mr. Hopman, "and we will be forever grateful."
Hilton Head Preparatory School will celebrate its 50th anniversary next school year and currently enrolls 410 students in grades Junior Kindergarten through 12th Grade.
